A very happy dog in a small package. Loves to play outside and needs a couple of walks a day for about 20-30 mins. Cocker Spaniels make great family pets, but as with all pedigree dogs make sure you see the mum and the dad to check they have the right temperament. Good breeders will be able to answer all your questions regarding this breed.

The Cocker Spaniel is easy to train and very willing to learn. They are a gundog and have a fantastic ability to follow scent. If you choose a puppy from a line of working gundogs then be aware they will need a lot more exercise than your average family pet. Cocker Spaniels breed specifically for working as gundogs will be the most successful in competitions such as field trials. However if you are looking for a dog to show (Crufts) then you would need to look for a breeder that has had success in the ring with their dogs. Show dogs also make great family pets as they aren't as energetic as working Cocker Spaniels.

Most Cocker Spaniels will live to be 10 to 12 years old.

Sparky is such a happy dog who loves running through puddles and in and out of muddy ditches. Definately not a dog suitable for a home with cream carpets lol!

He has been very healthy and only been to the vets when we first got him for his initial vacinations.

We have 3 children and a big back garden so Sparky spends most of his day running around with the kids or chasing his toys. We moved house recently and Sparky wasn't in the least bit bothered by all the comings and goings. As long as he has his bed and his toys he doesn't seem to mind where he lives.

If you are thinking of owning a Cocker Spaniel make sure you have time to go for walks every day as this is what they live for.
