DESCRIPTION
Labradors love food so it is important to be strict about things like titbits. Any food used for training should be accounted for in their daily allowance. Before choosing a puppy you will need to decide whether you just want a pet dog who will be happy with a daily walk and lots of fuss, or whether you want a working gundog. If possible ask the breeder to see the Sire and the Dam to make sure they have a temperament that will suit your lifestyle. If you have read the book Marley and Me you will understand why. Labradors are the most popular pedigree dogs in the UK. Unfortunately this has lead to some people breeding just for the money, without checking if the dogs are compatible. This means lots of expensive health checks, so if you see puppies being sold for less than £200 then it may not be a reputable breeder. Labradors can be very boisterous and destructive if they aren't given enough exercise. Make sure you have time to go walking each day before picking a large energetic breed. A Labrador that receives the right amount of exercise will be calm and have a strong desire to please. Labradors are intelligent and enjoy training (especially if there is food involved). They love company and will great strangers like long lost friends. They also get on well with dogs and other animals if introduced to them at an early age. |
