The Yorkshire Terrier is part of the Toy group due to their size (or lack of it). What they loose in size they make up for in personality and will happily take on a dog several times bigger than them. They do not get scared easily and are inquisitive, energetic little dogs. They don't need a lot of exercise as they are always on the go, but they will not complain if walked regularly.

Yorkshire Terriers fur can be trimmed to keep it short and easy to maintain, unless they are being shown in which case their hair needs to be long and straight. They are a good dog to have if you don't fancy the idea of having dog hair to hoover up.

They are intelligent and respond well to training, whether thats tricks to impress your friends or taking part in a local dog clubs activities.

I decided to get a Yorkie as my sister has fur allergies and I was told she would be fine as they have hair rather than fur. It was kind of true and she loves them to death so puts up with the mild reactions she occasionally has.

When I went to choose my puppy I fell in love with Thelma and Louise so ended up with two. My sister came with me to obedience classes so we could work them together and they did really well. However, they are now 5 and to be honest we spoil them rotten so they don't respond to our commands unless we use treats. They are never naughty as such and whenever people come over they always comment on how well behaved they are, which makes me beam with pride.

They do make us laugh and apart from a few annoying habits they are a pleasure to have around the house.
